Lyrics:
I must have seen some thousand ears
And patients say that all they hear
Is their own voice and they can’t stand the sound
Of barrels from all around

Now did you hear the news today
No, ’cause this sound won’t go away
You gotta help me, oh won’t you please
I’m begging, I’m on my knees

Too many fitters,
Too many problems
Closing too many earmolds
And not much openness go round
Can’t you see
This is a Land of Occlusion

This is the world we’re hearing
And this is the gain we’re giving
Let’s use the tools we’re given
And make this a fit worth hearing with

Oh openness where are you now
I gotta get it fixed somehow
Well should I drill or use a dome
This ear canal’s like a mobile home

This is the time
This is the place
Where I need my probe mike
There’s a lot of curves goin’ round
Tell me why this is the Land of Occlusion

This is the world we’re hearing
And this is the gain we’re giving
Let’s use the tools we’re given
And make every fit worth hearing with

I remember long ago
When the tones were sweeping
And the gain was right
But not quite right
Still the voice is in barrels
And the mold was tight…
So long ago

I won’t be coming home tonight
I simply gotta get it right
So where’s the peak and where’s the notch
Or should I have a shot of scotch

This is the time
This is the place
Where I need my probe mike
Lots of guesswork go round
Can’t you see this is a Land of Occlusion

This is the world we’re hearing
And this is the gain we’re giving
Let’s use the tools we’re given
And make every fit worth hearing with

This is the world we’re hearing
And this is the gain we’re giving
Let’s use the tools we’re given
And make every fit worth hearing with

Song History / Background:
From the lyricist: Peter Kossek, as a child in Poland, first discovered “occlusion” while playing with a kielbasa sausage. His continued Polish experiences with sausages, bananas and sometimes politics led him to appreciate the joy of openness, not only of ears, but also the mind. But . . . he could not find a word in the Polish language which truly expressed his inner feelings.

As a result, he adopted a new country, Denmark, where he has resided for the past 45 years. His occlusion experiments continued, and quickly moved from kielbasa to medisterpølse to fingers. And, he also found a new word for the cozy charm of open . . . “hygge.”

As Peter discarded his sausages and began to explore the world of hearing aid fittings, he learned that there too, many patients lived in the “Land of Occlusion.” If only they could have hygge. Over the past few years he has devoted his career to the assessment and eradication of all things occluding, and he brings you the fruit of his efforts in this emotionally-charged song. Enjoy the hygge!
